April 30    A United Church Healing America's Racial Divide
Roberts Wesleyan College (CLC)    FREE

7:00 PM    Join us on Saturday, April 30th at 7:00 pm for an evening with Will Ford & Matt Lockett at Roberts Wesleyan College in the Cultural Life Center.  Will & Matt share: "Jesus told to his disciples that power is released through an agreement in prayer according to Matthew 18:18-20. There is untapped potential when we can get a godly synergy that crosses age and gender obstacles; breaks through economic and social barriers; and shatters racial tensions. Hebrews 11:39-40 reveals another kind of agreement that few have ever considered. Though saints of the past are no longer here, the prayers of their generations are still alive before God's throne waiting to be answered. Discovery of the lives and prayers of our forefathers gives us an opportunity to come into an agreement that spans the gulf of time itself. While most are looking for next the big thing, God is looking for successors. This is the synergy of the ages.  An old iron kettle from the past has become a humble symbol of this unique dynamic of synergy. Slaves in the 19th century used it for cooking and cleaning, but secretly they used it for prayer in the middle of the night as it muffled their voices to prevent being caught and punished. When slavery ended, the kettle was then handed down through the generations along with the courageous story of intercession for the next generation. This incredible storyline didn’t stop there, however, because we serve an Everlasting God—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Will Ford and Matt Lockett have discovered a divine thread in the tapestry of America that has the potential to reshape the way this nation thinks about our past, present and future."

May 3    The Fatherhood Initiative Roundtable
Youth for Christ Building, 1 Favor Street

7:00 PM    Guest speaker Bob Lettau.  Bob Lettau started Mulberry Tree Ministries to come alongside men and women who have been released from jail or prison and are reentering the community. His desire is to help strengthen their spiritual lives and inspire them to believe the Lord will "exalt them in due time" for the glory of Jesus Christ.  Pastor Jon Kelly, who served time in prison, once said, "it is easier to go into prison and to do Bible studies than to meet somebody at the door (when they are released) and walk with them." But that's when they need us the most. "What kept me grounded," Kelly said, "is that I had men in my life cheering me on, encouraging me day by day."  The Fatherhood Initiative is raising up an army of Godly Father Figures; mentors cheering for young men so that in the future they will choose to be leaders who are good citizens, being more confident to fulfill their purposes and pursue their passions, and to invest in the lives of other young men.  "We are all hearing the call today to help a young person who is yearning for love, support, and guidance," says Lettau. "He may not feel seen or heard. He may be full of shame. He may feel insignificant. I am sure he has been deeply hurt, has put up walls, and his core soul is well-insulated from the very love he is craving. We are called to BE the love of God for that young man."  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1Jn 4:10)

May 5    National Day of Prayer
Various places

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
